Harvard Museum of Natural History Selected for Expanded Year-Long Bank of America Museums on Us Program

(Cambridge, MA) San Francisco-based Bank of America has announced a revised Museums on Us program and selected the Harvard Museum of Natural History near Harvard Square in Cambridge as one of only four Massachusetts museums to participate.

This year, in a major expansion of the program, Bank of America's cardholders will have the opportunity to gain free access to some of the nation's finest cultural institutions in 28 markets across the country during the first full weekend of every month for 12 months. The first Museums on Us weekend will be May 3 & 4, followed by June 7 & 8.

"We are delighted that Bank of America has recognized the museum's engaging exhibitions and lively weekend programs by selecting the Harvard Museum of Natural History for this honor," commented Elisabeth Werby, Executive Director of the museum.  “The museum is already a favorite destination for adults and kids. Through this program, we look forward to introducing new visitors to Harvard’s unique collections and dynamic research and to encouraging repeat visitation.”

In addition to the Harvard Museum of Natural History, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Danforth Museum of Art, and the DeCordova Museum & Sculpture Park were chosen as participating Massachusetts institutions.  For the full list of museums, see the Bank of America's press release.

The Harvard Museum of Natural History is world-renowned for its display of 3,000 models of “Glass Flowers” and its historic galleries of dinosaurs, meteorites, minerals, and animal specimens from around the world. In the past few years it has mounted new permanent and changing exhibitions and expanded its educational and public programs. Current and planned exhibitions include Nests and Eggs, a multimedia exhibit of the myriad ways that birds nurture their young (through August 2008); Sea Creatures in Glass, the first Cambridge exhibition of marine animals crafted by the same father and son team that created the Glass Flowers (through Jan 4, 2009); Looking at Leaves, dramatic black & white blow-ups of single leaves by photographer Amanda Means (opening May 9); and Language of Color  (opening September 26).

The Harvard Museum of Natural History is located at 26 Oxford Street, a 7-8 minute walk through historic Harvard Yard from the Harvard Square T station. It is open from 9 am to 5 pm, 361 days per year. The Museum is handicapped accessible. For general information please call 617.495.3045 or the Plan your visit page.
