11th Annual Roger Tory Peterson Memorial Lecture

Internationally renowned marine ecologist Jeremy Jackson will discuss the future of the world’s oceans. Decades of over-fishing, habitat destruction, and ocean warming have left our marine ecosystems and biodiversity in a state of crisis. But with successful management and conservation strategies, Jackson sees hope for renewing the health and sustainability of our oceans.

Dr. Jackson is the William E. and Mary B. Ritter Professor at  Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Senior Scientist at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute.

Significant support for the 2008 Roger Tory Peterson Memorial Lecture is provided by Houghton Mifflin.

Following the lecture, there will be a ticketed reception at the Harvard Museum of Natural History.

 

Lecture Tickets — General Public

Tickets for the Roger Tory Peterson Memorial Lecture are $5 for the general public and $3 for Harvard ID holders. Tickets can be obtained at the Harvard Box Office at Holyoke Center in Harvard Square beginning on March 18, or by phone at 617.496.2222 for an additional fee.

Box office hours are noon to 6 pm, Tuesday through Sunday. (Limit of four tickets per person.)

Advance Lecture Tickets — HMNH Members

A limited number of advance tickets to the Roger Tory Peterson lecture are set aside for current HMNH members. These are available now through March 17 by calling 617.384.7296. (Two ticket limit for Individual level members, four tickets for Household members and above.)

 

Reception

Following the RTP lecture, there will be a reception with Dr. Jackson at the Harvard Museum of Natural History. Tickets are $45 per person for HMNH members / $50 for nonmembers. To RSVP, please call 617.496.6972

 

Directions & Parking

The Science Center is located at One Oxford Street, next to Sanders Theatre on the Harvard main campus, a 5-minute walk from Harvard Square. Free parking will be available in the underground garage at 52 Oxford Street.

The Roger Tory Peterson Memorial Lecture was established by the Harvard Museum of Natural History in 1997 to keep alive the memory of this pioneering naturalist, and to celebrate and perpetuate his tireless efforts to conserve the planet's biological diversity. Past presenters of the lecture have included Edward O. Wilson, Jared M. Diamond, Bruce Babbitt, Richard Leakey, Peter Matthiessen, David Attenborough, Robert Bateman, David Suzuki, and Jane Goodall.
