The epic landscapes of Patagonia await us, from its rugged coastlines, home to elephant seals and orcas, to its massive glacier fields and breathtaking mountains. There is no better time to visit than now – while the dollar still remains strong and during the summer when the weather is beautiful. Our Patagonia sojourn begins in Buenos Aires, the “Paris of South America”. We travel to Peninsula Valdes, a wildlife sanctuary that has been called “an open air zoo”, an ideal place for close-up watching of penguins, dark dolphins, elephant seals and sea lions, and birds. We then fly to El Calafate, the gateway to the majestic world of glaciers, to explore Glacier National Park, and to marvel at the massive Perito Moreno Glacier. This is one of the most spectacular views one can experience: a huge wall of ice extending up into the mists that hang over a long valley. Enjoy three full days at Torres del Paine National Park, a wonderland of craggy, granite peaks, snow clad mountains, glacier-fed lakes, waterfalls and rivers, pampas, and thick Magellanic forests. Learn about the navigational history of Punta Arenas, a bustling port city “at the end of the earth” situated at the southern tip of the continent on the Strait of Magellan. Our tour concludes in Santiago, at the foot of the Andes Mountains. .
