In–Person Workshop

Instructors: Kathy Liu, PhD candidate | Aizenberg Biomineralization & Biomimetics Lab Jackson Wilt, Graduate Student with the Lewis Lab

Price: $35 members / $40 nonmembers

Have you ever wondered what makes slime slimy, how you can run over a pool of cornstarch slime without sinking, or how slimy things power all sorts of high-tech applications? Did you know slime is actually all around us, with all sorts of sources, compositions, and properties? This workshop will demystify slimy materials, providing a scientific foundation to analyze their makeup and properties, and a foray into their technological applications. Then, workshop attendees will craft personal slimes of different types to take home. No prior science background is required to participate in this class. All attendees must be 18 or older.

Kathy Liu and Jackson Wilt are PhD students in materials science and mechanical engineering at Harvard. They both research how to make and use squishy materials, whether in medical devices, 3D printing, or as tools for understanding the world. The world of slime combines their love for polymer science with broadening the audiences of materials science.

Maximum class size is 25 attendees.
