Red garnets, purple amethyst, blue turquoise – these jewels are naturally made rocks and minerals! Learn the geology behind your favorite gems. Discover jewelry techniques that can be used to turn rocks, minerals, and semi-precious stones into earrings, necklaces, pendants and more in this class that combines art with science.

About Summer Science Week

Each Summer Science Week program is taught by a professional educator and serves a maximum of 15 students. Based in one of the museum classrooms, students work independently and in groups to examine museum specimens, conduct experiments, create crafts, explore museum galleries, play games, and have fun!
