DESCRIPTION:<p>	<drupal-media data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="cca692ca-df80-4b98-b154-0faad5c506b3" alt="An Atlas Beetle." data-view-mode="hwp_medium"></drupal-media></p><p>	 </p><p>	<strong>We continue to monitor the evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and prioritize the safety of our visitors, staff, students and volunteers. In the interests of reducing the number of people on campus and slowing the opportunity for transmission, the university museums are closing to the public, at the end of business on Thursday, March 12 until further notice. All public programs, classes, and events have been canceled. Over the next few weeks we will be assessing the situation and reviewing options for when we will be able to re-open to the public.</strong></p><p>	 </p><p>	Instructor: Mickey Alice Kwapis</p><p>	Explore large tropical insects from an evolutionary <span style="color:black">perspective </span>with a hands-on look at gargantuan species! Utilizing sustainably sourced Atlas Beetles (5” + wingspan), students will learn about insect development and anatomy by preparing and preserving specimens of their own. Students will get to keep a set of illustrated instructions, tools, and their own finished specimen to display at home. With newfound knowledge, students will also get to explore the <span style="color:black">museum’s </span>arthropod gallery to take in all of the subtle nuances of Earth's invertebrate species.</p><p>	This is a fun and engaging activity that can be enjoyed by<span style="color:black"> all ages. </span>Students under <span style="color:black">age </span>12 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone who can work with the child, at no additional charge. If <span style="color:black">chaperones wish to </span>complete their own project, a second <span style="color:black">beetle </span>must be purchased through a separate registration.</p><p>	<span lang="EN"><span style="line-height:115%"><span><span style="color:black">This class starts promptly at </span></span></span></span><span lang="EN"><span style="line-height:115%"><span>11:30 am and ends at 12:30 pm. Due to the time-sensitive nature of the preservation process, <span style="color:black">late </span>students are asked to call ahead <span style="color:black">with an expected arrival time.</span> A contact phone number will be provided after registration.
