DESCRIPTION:<p>April 21–25, 2025</p><p>Location: Harvard Ed Portal, 224 Western Avenue, Allston, MA</p><p><a href="https://www.hmnh.harvard.edu/event/environmental-protectors-allston-teen-internship#es"><em>Leer en español</em></a></p><p>Calling youth ages 14–18 to help their communities through science! The <a href="https://forms.gle/HGtNQ2MZfHJMV5G37">application</a> for the Spring 2025 session of Environmental Protectors in Allston, MA, is live. This nationwide National Science Foundation-funded project engages underrepresented teens<strong> </strong>in STEM in community-driven science research activities. The program is headed by the <a href="https://ebays.lawrencehallofscience.org/">East Bay Academy for Young Scientists (EBAYS)</a> of the University of California, Berkeley, and led locally by Harvard Museums of Science &amp; Culture staff.</p><p>In Environmental Protectors, students will:</p><ul><li>Conduct hands-on science</li><li>Explore how environmental and social issues intersect</li><li>Develop leadership skills</li><li>Investigate soil pollution through field work</li><li>Share their work with the community!</li></ul><p>This program is a great opportunity for anyone interested in a career in STEM or in exploring ways to improve their community. Participants will be eligible for a stipend. There are also opportunities to apply the skills learned in this program to the wider world! Past students have published reports of their research, presented at conferences, or shared their findings with public officials. No prior science experience is required. Allston and Brighton residents will be prioritized.</p>
